Pres spox: Russia not mulling possible counter-sanctions for Syria
MOSCOW, Oct 7 (PRIME) -- The Russian government is not considering any countermeasures against possible sanctions by European countries over the situation in Syria, spokesman for the president Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday.
“No articulated position has been announced in this respect so far. It is clear that the topic is being discussed by the Europeans but nevertheless, we have heard no official statements in this respect,” Peskov said.
The official said that Russia is not discussing countermeasures. “Sure, we have not so far, there is no subject to consider in this case yet.”
The U.S. does not rule out introduction of new sanctions against Russia if a diplomatic solution for the conflict in Syria is not found, State Department Spokesperson Mark Toner said on September 30.
On Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported citing sources that Berlin is considering new sanctions on Russia due to its role in the Syrian military conflict.
